Golf has undergone many changes over the years and the equipment we use has changed as well. The traditional iron set is more or less obsolete, with most manufacturers realising the growing popularity of easy-to-hit hybrids and offering irons sets which start at the 4-iron and sometimes even at the 5-iron. It makes sense, as for most club golfers the hybrid is significantly more forgiving to play than the irons.

The USGA and the R&A enforce a limit on the volume of driver heads. That limit is 460cc and for most club golfers, bigger really is better. If you struggle with reliability with your driver, a bigger driver will most likely help in most cases. Triangular profiles and more even weight distribution makes bigger drivers far more reliable, even from miss-hits. Playing a bigger driver means less loss of distance and accuracy on miss-hits.

As with all clubs, the shaft is the engine of your driver. Play a driver with the wrong shaft and you’ll be struggling to find any accuracy or distance. Many of the most common flight problems in golf can be put down to the shaft. If a slice is ruining your scores, a softer shaft might do the trick. If your launch angles are too low, then using a shaft with a more flexible tip for example, could add some loft to your drives. Your driving will develop if you match your driver shaft characteristics to your swing speed. If you don’t know your swing speed, most shaft ratings also tabulate the carry versus swing speed specifications. Check the ratings for various shafts and opt for one with a carry rating that matches your typical yardage.

Hybrid clubs are the top rising segment in golf club sales. If your long irons are inconsistent, some easy-to-hit hybrids could well be your best choice. Built to be forgiving and playable from all lies, hybrids play equally well from the tee, fairway and even the rough. Hybrids are designed to be high launching with soft landings, so most shaft companies are selling specialty shafts built with this in mind.

Iron designs now come in an even wider range of choices. Modern iron design can help many of the most common faults in golf. Slices can be eliminated with offset irons, wider sole designs to minimize the fat shot and help get the ball in the air that much easier. Check the features of your irons. If their design isn’t helping your weak points, then it’s in all probability time for an upgrade.

The scoring clubs have plenty of options to choose from as well. Wedges come in a variety of forgiving designs so you don’t have to compromise your wedge play anymore. If you have problems playing little flop-shots then high lofted wedges are there to help. If your bunker play is erratic, choose an easy to hit hollow sand wedge. These hollow wedges are almost impossible to miss-hit and make easy work of just about any bunker.

Recent changes in equipment rules now allow for some pretty odd looking putter designs. Bizarre looking, but effective. If your putting is erratic, a more forgiving putter design might be the answer. Are you closing the putter towards the hole too much? For right handed golfers that most likely leaves a lot of putts missing to the left of the hole and a face balanced mallet could well be the solution to your putting woes.

The right clubs for your game should make the most of your strengths and diminish your weak points. You won’t need to break the bank either. The component market offers some very high quality clubs to choose from. As an added bonus, these component clubs can be custom built to match your game and that’s the best way to play the right clubs.

Every golf hole starts at the tee. If you’re having problems driving, then you’re starting every single hole at a disadvantage. You might scramble your par with a great putt, but you could well be putting for birdies if your driving is up to scratch.

For nearly all golfers, long golf drives and consistency with the driver are far from being impossible. Being long from the tee is a lot easier than most people understand.

With the modern golf ball and Titanium driver, long drives come from hitting the ball on a high launch angle and getting the best angle of descent. It’s not about wormburners anymore. Long golf drives now come from high launch and long carry.

Sure, with their 120 plus mph club speed and pure striking, pros can still get height on the ball, even with low lofts on their drivers. For most club players though, using drivers with extra loft will increase both length and consistency. Most average players would For the majority of club golfers, drivers with with a loft of between 11 to 14 degrees will give the best results.

Fitting the correct shaft is vital when it comes to being consistent with the driver. The shaft plays a crucial function in all your clubs, but play the wrong shaft in your driver and any miss-hits are expensive.

Most golfers now play graphite shafts in their drivers. Sadly, many golfers also play shafts that are too stiff for their swing speeds. That might account for the most common miss amongst club golfers, the slice. Play a shaft that is too stiff and you’ll almost certainly suffer from a slice.

This has a lot to do with the popular misconception that graphite shafts are too soft. That might have been the case 10 years ago, but current graphite shaft fiber patterns have given us exceptional models with excellent flex profiles.

The majority of golfers would improve their driving by playing lighter driver shafts with softer flex ratings and softer torque profiles. The light-weight will improve swing speed and the medium torque will allow the shaft to load properly during the swing, delivering your driver into the ball with more energy. Longer drives come from higher energy.

Launch angles are also affected by the rigidity of the shaft tip. Your trajectories will suffer if you use a shaft which is too tip-stiff. Launching the ball on the optimum angle is where a long golf drive comes from. Bear in mind, we’re looking for a strong flight, not a low worm burner.

Playing the right combination of driver head and shaft specifications is crucial to consistently long golf drives. Your clubs should help your game, not amplify any swing faults.

Professional golfers sure know how to make those long and straight hits. Being able to hit a golf ball with a driver 300 or more yards is another skill to be learned in this game. Mastering that golf swing can make you more competitive in this game. Some of these helpful golf tips may just benefit you:

1) Focus and keep a relaxed state while driving the ball because you need a loose and nice grip.

2) Your head should then be kept down throughout the whole swing. Therefore, you should not follow the ball’s flight but focus on the spot where you hit the ball. Keeping your eye on the ball throughout your swing can increase yardage on your drives.

3) You should release later during the swing, because the further down your downswing, the further you will be able to hit the ball. Once this technique is mastered, you will be able to increase its power.

4) The swing must be lengthened. While swinging, make sure that you are extending all the way through the ball. Arms should not be tight and bent but extended.

5) Rotation must be done correctly. If you can see that your shirts’ left shoulder is getting worn out, then you are rotating just right. The chin must touch that part of your shoulder during your backswing.

6) Transferring your energy throughout the swing is the most important since you would want to make that powerful hit. Make sure that you are not putting much weight on your back foot since you will not be able to hit that ball far at all. Your weight must then be shifted to the front leg. This enables you to move the energy towards the ball.

A perfect timing and good energy should always be considered in making these 300 yard hits. Practice makes perfect. Professional golfers are able to accomplish these hits looking effortless because the right techniques are followed. So if you would like to drive a golf ball as far as Tiger Woods can, these methods would be something that can come in handy to your next trip to the golf course.
