Some factors causing the push shot
If the pull shot was caused due to the clubface being in a closed position on impact with the ball, the push shot happens due to the clubface being open at the time of impact. As a result of this, right handed golfers will find the ball moving right of the target line and keep moving continuously in the same direction.

Push shot effectively means pushing the ball, and this happens when you delay your shot by a fraction of a second. Timing is important in golf, and thus it is important that you hit the ball at the right place and at the right time. A delayed downswing normally happens due to lack of rotation in the arms, which results in hitting the ball incorrectly. Most golfers feel that they would have hit the ball from the inside, but yet they find the ball traveling in a wrong line.
Much like the pull shot, the positioning of the ball also impacts the push shot. Place the ball a bit far back from you, and you will know that you have made contact with the ball, a touch sooner than you expected.
Some ways by which you can prevent the push
To help you eliminate the push shot, you will find a lot strategies around, some on the paper and some that can be implemented. But if you are a beginner, there is nothing better than going back to your basics. And the basics say that you need to turn your body ever so slightly to ensure you avoid getting the push.
To hit the ball straight and far everytime you step up to the tee box, is something we all desire. However someone might tell you there’s an easy way out, if they do, there not doing you any favours, I’m here to tell you there ain’t. One of the best and the recommended ways to practice not getting into the habit of hitting push shots is to try transferring the body weight to the left foot. Be sure to avoid doing this with a club in hand, because in doing so, you could spoil the chances of focusing on the movement itself. Also make note that you only have to move your body or rotate your body slightly, not move it violently to either side.
The one thing you could do after you have practiced the previous step is to pick up the club and practice the same movement with the club. Make note to have the buckle of your club point towards the target at the end of the swing.
The objective here is to ensure that the ball moves in a straight line. This you can accomplish by hitting the ball with a closed clubface. On digging deep, you will find that the positioning of the right forearm slightly turned over the left ensures that the clubface is closed when it hits the ball.
